From Meeting Tool to AI Work Platform: Zoom’s AI Companion 3.0

TL;DR: With AI Companion 3.0, Zoom introduces a new context- and outcome-oriented work interface. This AI assistant transcends the limits of traditional collaboration tools by unifying communication, documents, and tasks within a single workspace – and generating concrete results from them.

Zoom introduces AI Companion 3.0 – a new context- and outcome-oriented work interface. The AI assistant breaks through the boundaries of conventional collaboration tools by integrating communication, documents, and tasks into one unified workspace and generating tangible outcomes from that integration.

Zoom’s new AI Companion 3.0 can analyze content from meetings, chats, notes, and files. Based on this contextual understanding, the AI automatically generates summaries, task lists, email drafts, and priority rankings – without manual input. In doing so, Zoom minimizes time-consuming routine work and creates space for focused, high-value activity.

Also new is the AI Companion’s browser-based interface. It serves as a central control hub where users can define tasks, review outputs, and manage AI-powered workflows. Unlike before – when AI features appeared only sporadically within Zoom Meetings or Chats – a cohesive, end-to-end work dashboard now takes center stage.

AI as an Active Agent

The AI Companion no longer acts solely on command – it proactively undertakes tasks. After a meeting, it can automatically create follow-up tasks, send message drafts, or generate daily reports. This ability to anticipate and execute actions marks a decisive shift: from passive assistance toward agentive AI.

Zoom also expands access to its AI tool. AI Companion 3.0 is now available directly in the browser – no full Zoom Workplace license required. Some core functions are offered free of charge, while advanced workflows are available as a standalone subscription.

Technically, the solution builds on Zoom’s Federated AI approach. Zoom combines its own language models with external systems – including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and NVIDIA – to deliver precisely the right AI capability for each use case.

Seamless Integration Across Boundaries

Another key focus is seamless connectivity with existing work environments: data from Zoom Workplace – as well as from external services like Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive – is made available to the AI for analysis and automation. This broadens the AI’s contextual awareness beyond Zoom-native interactions alone, significantly increasing value across the entire digital workplace.

With AI Companion 3.0, Zoom addresses a central need for many enterprises: simplifying everyday work without adding complexity. By combining automated analysis, deep contextual understanding, and proactive, agentive workflows, Zoom continues its evolution – from a classic collaboration tool provider into an integrated, AI-powered platform for productive work.
